From My Kitchen to Yours: An Invitation to Cook, Create, and Connect
written by Texas
Welcome to In the Kitchen with Texas. I’m Texas, and I’m delighted to invite you into this space, a culmination of my journey, passion for cooking, nourishment, and the transformative power of food. Here, I aim to create more than a collection of recipes; this is a place to inspire, guide, and connect through the art of cooking.
A Personal Journey
My relationship with cooking began out of necessity but evolved into a profound passion. Years ago, I embarked on a transformative journey—cleaning up my diet, embracing sobriety, and reclaiming my health. Along the way, I discovered a truth that has shaped my life ever since: Food is love.
Growing up, I didn’t have the foundation of home-cooked meals steeped in tradition. As a self-described “box-food kid,” I often relied on convenience foods, with my mum’s rotation of simple meals as the closest experience of home cooking. To be honest, I don't think she ever enjoyed cooking. Deep inside, I longed to become the kind of person who could step into a kitchen, take a few fresh ingredients, and transform them into something nourishing and delightful.
My first steps into the culinary world were guided by a friend who happened to be a trained chef. Her lessons became the gateway to a new perspective on food and its potential to nourish not only the body but also the soul. Those early experiences ignited a passion that continues to evolve today.
The Vision for This Blog
I created In the Kitchen with Texas to share the lessons, stories, and techniques I’ve gathered on my journey. This is more than a blog—it’s a resource, a haven, and an invitation to rediscover the joy of cooking. Here, you can expect:
Thoughtfully crafted recipes, from cherished family dishes like my mom’s cornbread dressing to modern, health-conscious creations.
Practical guides for mastering kitchen appliances—whether it’s maximizing your Vitamix, exploring the possibilities of a bread machine, or simplifying meal prep with a food processor.
Techniques and tips that demystify cooking, helping you build confidence and creativity in the kitchen.
Stories and reflections that celebrate food as a medium for connection, growth, and self-expression.
My hope is that this space becomes a trusted companion on your own culinary journey, whether you’re rekindling a love for cooking or stepping into the kitchen for the first time.
Cooking Philosophy
At its heart, my cooking philosophy is simple: prioritize scratch cooking, embrace simplicity, and focus on health without sacrificing flavor or enjoyment. I believe in evolving with our tastes, needs, and circumstances—after all, food is as dynamic as life itself. This blog reflects that adaptability, offering a mix of wholesome, plant-forward meals alongside indulgent treats and everything in between.
A Glimpse Into My World
Beyond the kitchen, I wear many hats. I’m a holistic health coach and the proud owner of a small-town barbershop, where I’ve spent over 25 years honing my craft. My journey in sobriety, now over a decade strong, has profoundly influenced my perspective on life and food.
Brooklyn, where I lived for ten transformative years, introduced me to an incredible world of art, food, and culture. It’s there that my love of food took root, shaped by the vibrancy and diversity of the city. Today, I channel that inspiration into my creative pursuits as an artist, poet, and storyteller. Whether through writing, drawing, or knitting (yes, I even design patterns), I find joy in sharing my passions with others.
An Invitation to Your Kitchen
Cooking is so much more than a daily chore; it’s a powerful act of care and creativity. My goal is to inspire you to reclaim your kitchen as a place of nourishment and joy—for yourself and those you love. Together, we’ll explore the beauty of food, discover new skills, and savor the process of creating something meaningful.
Thank you for being here. I look forward to sharing this journey with you.
