Hello from Texas
A Warm Welcome
Hello, and welcome to In the Kitchen With Texas! I’m so glad you’re here. Whether you stumbled upon this space while searching for a new recipe or were curious about kitchen tips and tricks, thank you for stopping by. This blog is where I share my adventures, conversations, and the lessons I’ve learned along the way—in and out of the kitchen.
Here, you’ll find more than just recipes. I share practical tips, techniques, and heartfelt stories about how cooking became a cornerstone of my life. My goal is to inspire you to create, experiment, and find joy in cooking, no matter where you’re starting from.
My Cooking Journey
Growing up, I was what I like to call a “boxed kid.” You name it, we had it: boxed mac and cheese, instant mashed potatoes, frozen dinners. Cooking from scratch? That seemed like magic reserved for people who knew secrets I could never uncover. I’d watch cooking shows with awe, dreaming of being someone who could whip up a meal with confidence and grace.
The turning point came with a simple but powerful realization: Food is love. That phrase shifted everything for me. I realized cooking wasn’t just about feeding myself; it was about nourishment, connection, and creativity. Determined to redefine my relationship with food, I took my first steps into the kitchen armed with a cast iron skillet, a sharp chef’s knife, and a desire to learn from scratch—literally.
Challenges and Triumphs
In the beginning, the kitchen was a battlefield. Knife skills? Nonexistent. Understanding flavors? Not a clue. I remember my first attempts at cooking vividly, including the time I tried to flip a pancake and ended up with a charred, sticky mess. But when I finally nailed that perfect golden pancake, the joy was indescribable.
Every small triumph built my confidence. I learned how to dice an onion without tears, combine ingredients to create harmony, and eventually cook meals that not only satisfied but delighted. The process wasn’t quick or easy, but it taught me that growth in the kitchen mirrors life itself: messy, rewarding, and full of surprises.
What Cooking Means to Me
Today, cooking is more than just a skill; it’s an act of love and self-care. It’s how I nourish my body, connect with others, and express creativity. As a health coach, cooking has become integral to my daily life and identity. It embodies my values of joy and moderation, reminding me to savor life’s simple pleasures.
Cooking also taught me patience and mindfulness. There’s something profoundly grounding about chopping vegetables, stirring a pot, or watching bread rise. It’s a daily reminder that the most fulfilling things in life often take time.
Why I Created This Blog
In the Kitchen With Texas was born out of a desire to share my journey and help others find their footing in the kitchen. Over the years, friends and family have asked me for recipes, tips, and guidance, and I realized I wanted to create a space where all of that could live—a virtual recipe box, if you will, filled with knowledge, stories, and inspiration.
This blog is my way of giving back. It’s a resource for anyone who wants to make cooking more approachable, enjoyable, and meaningful. It’s not just about the food; it’s about the experience, the learning, and the connections we create along the way.
